Why not? What this and many other servers are doing is clearly not what Mojang want them to do, and MarkIRL is campaigning to try and make what Grumm said in this post to be their actual TOS, meaning it will be illegal in the future.
People can decide whether to pay or not for something. It is your decision, and if you want to buy it then you do. Mojang can't stop that, there would be no way to anyway, and if people want some perks and to be better than others, it's their choice. So I'm totally against that.
*cough*surprise surprise*cough* Mojang can enforce servers not offering these 'donations' in the first place in the EULA, therefore removing the option for people to choose it in the first place. Many of the people who are 'donating' are actually naive young children that haven't learn't that stealing from your parents is bad. Also, it is barely a decision, servers rely on people becoming addicted combined with their ignorance and lack of life experience in order for them to actually pay anything. Also, the things that servers are selling are technically property of Mojang, and people re-selling them is undeniably illegal. Unfortunately, the majority of people playing on servers are this; ignorant, young and impressionable. Although choosing to donate out of the greater half of their dirty modernised hearts would teach them valuable life lessons that will turn them into better Human beings, I don't see these kids caring too much about the servers they play on. If Mojang had enforced this TOS 5 years ago then these servers would not have been fashioned in such a way, but things happen. The only way of removing the bad apple servers is to prohibit every server from creating such 'donation' packs, thus restricting these servers from functioning. Everyone will then mature up and flood over to the good/adequate servers of minecraft and a majority will be happy.
That's true, Runescape do a similar thing, well, Jagex. RSGP selling is against the rules as it is property of Jagex. But then again, idk how we would fund this server. But yeah pay2win is nooby
I kinda agree, the problem is how will the servers earn money? As you say, the majority don't care about the server, so they wouldn't donate if they wouldn't get anything - And if a server is pretty good, but doesn't have that much money, it will probably close. Let's just hope Mojang won't enforce people not to donate.
They will never enforce people not donating at all, because people are aloud to choose their donation preference to anything, even the North Korean army, but I think they are working hard to find a way of compensating for the loss of donations that would occur.
I think it's utter bullcrap, they just need more money for realms. Parents of kids have been complaining that their kid steals their credit card and starts paying for stuff on minecraft servers. That's not Mojangs problem, but that's just horrible parenting...Anyways this is not the place to do my entire story/opinion about that, but let's just keep it at: Bs
It Depends some servers are completely pay to win servers where u get like a wood sword in kit pvp where as if you donate u get full d prot 4 which unless u dont know how to attack someone u will win unlike squad because smelter is an example he has not payed to skywars he is still winning and it costs alot to pay for a server as mojang know so asking ppl do donate is not a bad thing. It is optional and u get perks out of it to say thank you for keeping the sever alive. therefore it should stay as long as it isnt completely pay to win
I think that moderate prices are just fine, like in the case of kitpvp. You can buy a good kit for $2.50, where in factions everything is expensive. I think Mojang is trying to make it so servers can't make lots of money (factions[going back to the server)].My question is, how will servers survive? Squadcraft lives off of both small donations and large ones, but if all are cut off then only the people that care enough about it will donate, not for a kit, but just to keep the server alive. That can't possibly last forever, and the people that care can't possibly provide enough out of their own pocket for a quality server, can they?
Like what MCSmelter said earlier, there isn much Mojang can do about kids "borrowing" their parents' credit card.
I'm sort of annoyed that pay2win hasn't stopped for this server. Would be nice to play kitpvp without getting raped by a couple phantoms and berserkers.
He is saying that you necroposted on this thread, but you didn't as your post was relevant to the thread.
Gotcha. I just looked up more on the EULA, and from what I see there isn't really a lawful way to monetize a server unless you charge direct access to it, like an entry fee. Squadcraft seems to be doing fine though, so I'm not going to question the method.
Everyone calm down, it's ok. I will fill Notch and Jeb's butts with love and force them to pray for me and for them to take the Eula away...... Then I will say it's all ogre now
Bring them on, the other day these two huligans by the names "KillerHamster" & "JEVH_Ender" kept joining the game and teaming... Every game they joined with me for some reason and I kept shoving cookies up their asses... And yes that is good.. For me
