This is a thread for some suggestions of staff perms/the ways they handle hackers. 1 Vanish. /vanish would be great for mods to be undercover. In a few mod apps, they would like to not have a mod tag so they could be hidden. Well, with /vanish they could be on the server without anyone knowing. Now, if you were scared of staff abusing /v to hit people, there's an option that you could use to make it so you cannot attack players in /v. Hackers usually turn them off once they see staff, or just log off. If they think the staff aren't on, then they could be caught more easily. 2 A possible better way to catch hackers. With this way, it could be a lot more time, and could use a lot more staff to actually make this effective. Lots of pvp servers use this, and I know surge is trying to make squadcraft unique and different from every other server, but this is actually a pretty useful way. For this to actually work, the /freeze command would need to be added. /freeze would freeze the player in place, and make them unable to use commands except /r and /msg. Also, if they were to log out during a /freeze to avoid anything, there would be an option to click that will ban them. Anyways, the popular method is to /freeze a possible hacker. Then, telling them to join our ts server. Of course they would have to have a time limit so they don't try to stall it. Perhaps a 5-8 mins time limit for them to get into the ts server. Once in the ts server, the staff would move them in a private channel and ask them to download 'join.me', which is a screen sharing client. For the actual screen sharing process, staff would check their mods, versions, and all possible areas. And if we could, someone could make a downloadable thing that would detect any hacks. 3 Refusal to cooperate Some people just don't like to cooperate with staff if they are being asked to ss, however they can't avoid the ban hammer. This is an add-on to the new way of catching hackers, but if they are refusing to screen share that would be a ban. If they time-out or crash while being frozen, that would be a ban, because we have no way of seeing whether they were being truthful or not. I have not thought of any ways to make that a better system. Also, staff would have to make sure the hacker's friend isn't ss'ing for him. It seems like an unlikely thing to happen, but once in a while, it happens. So these are just suggestions, if you disagree or like to add-on to any of these feel free to reply!
The 3rd 1. Some people may have shytish internet and if it was a none hacker too and they got frozen and they crash then they are screwed. Not bad ideas though. I still think we need to be able to craft in kitpvp plot worlds
No. 1. Add vanish. This is needed. Going on to alts is so frustrating, but vanish would have to work differently to ghost, and more like the /spectate command so tracers can't find us. No.2. Freeze is a good idea, but there is a better way to do this. In any point in combat a player can be brought to a scanning area where mods can scan the player for hacks, to make sure they are correct. The first question would simply be; do you admit to hacking yes or no? If they say no state your reason for bringing them there, and ask the, what version they are running minecraft on. Then ask them to ss. If they refuse or log out, they will be banned. This warning can come up at the start of the scan.
Honestly crixiaro No.2 is techniqually pointless. Cos on the mods behalf' thats just more work. Instead if they find a hacker and see his hacks but the toggles when he sees the mod then he gets banned ez as that. Nothing needed because it will make it more complicated
Another suggestion /Tp perms and if not already added, permissions to see alerts of possible hacks With this, if someone is getting high alerts of possible hacks, a mod could Tp to them for further investigation.
I think instead of vanish we should just get an invis potion command that gives you 1 hour of invisibility. This is good because if you are spectating a suspected hacker, if you are in vanish he cant hit you, but if you are invisible and not in vanish, and if he is hacking, he will instantly chop your head off. So if you are invisible and they nuke you, good hacker proof. or maybe we should get a vanish that makes your potion effects invisible. currently vanish works by turning player into an arrow entity or something like that. The screenshare command is very dumb. They have gotten around this. All the high end hacker clients have a panic button, you hit that button and instantly all the hacks are gone. Further, if the player hides the client somewhere in a random folder, you will never find it. That makes the screenshare idea not efficient as it will only catch parcial amount of hackers. I guess what i could do is, just make it if you get 1000 fight angles, or 1000 combined improbables, the server just /kills you. It's true this isnt 100% efficient ether. Really really high end clients don't generate any of these. Thats because the way they work makes the minecraft server think the player is doing the thing the hacks are doing. But i guess the mods can tempban those. they do have kit ghost.
Surge, the point is that if we had vanish players wouldn't know we were there. If we had an invis potion, they could simply use tracers to find us. When they know there is a mod near them they turn of their hacks. Scanning players to make sure that they 100% hack if in doubt is pointless? It doesn't matter how much work it is, let's make sure we make the right decision.
Maybe My opinion is try and if it doesn't work and people complain then remove it. @surgetheurge You think that's an idea.
