So in the the city I live in, there has lately been a lot of debating on whether or not the guns laws in the area should be made more strict. All this debating and stuff all started a couple days ago when 2 people were shot and killed while standing outside a gas station one morning. So I was wondering what you think of about gun control. Is it bad or is it good in your opinion?
Where on Earth did you get such an absurd idea?? Studies show that gun laws make for a safer environment. You can't argue with facts.
No, but no one would be able to point a gun at someone's head in the first place if no guns were allowed. Besides, it'd be a LOT of work just to train everybody how to use guns, and it'd require lots of regulations. Would you feel comfortable with pedophiles, gang members, and little kids all walking around with a gun unsupervised? Also, bad example. You've discovered something, not done something about it.
No. Pedophiles can be worse with guns. Gang members would be rampant. Kids have more of an excuse. If someone attacks you, you could have a knife to defend yourself at most.
Knives are pretty quick action. You could also have pepper spray or a stun gun. Not everything needs to be a gun.
Gun laws in America — this shouldn’t even be an issue. Our Second Amendment right not only states “the right of the people to keep and bear arms,” but more importantly for this issue, “shall not be infringed.” During the Revolutionary War, most of the Americans fought Britain with their own guns. The people insisted that the U.S. Constitution have a Bill of Rights to stop the government from taking their weapons. Who do you think would voluntarily give up a weapon they paid for, a weapon that may be used for protection of their family? An honest, law-abiding citizen. Unfortunately, many of these citizens will follow orders and disarm themselves, leaving them helpless against an armed criminal. If a person thinks criminals will voluntarily give up their weapons, that person is delusional. If guns were to be banned, we would see a surge in the black market for guns. If a murderer does not have a gun, but wants to kill others, he will find something to complete his task, whether it’s a pencil, a car, a knife, or whatever. We are trying to stop evil in this world that we cannot prevent. Studies have shown that locations where guns have been outlawed, neighborhood burglaries increased. We cannot rely on the police to deter crime. Remember: the police arrive after a crime has been committed. Banning guns will favor the criminals, by taking advantage of innocent victims. I also believe we shouldn’t have areas or locations where firearms are prohibited — there is no better place for a killer to release anger than at a mall or school where they will not face any threats. I believe guns should be allowed on college campuses with the exception that the school should know its students that carry guns. While some people say this would only increase the number of bullets flying in the air, there is a chance that the shooter would be stopped before they ever start. With a number of defenseless citizens in a specific location, there is zero percent chance that somebody will stop the shooter until the police arrive, which is too late. We need to understand that we cannot stop crimes and murders. And banning guns would be a step, or two, backwards instead of moving forward in the right direction. I believe that gun control is both good and bad. It's good in the fact of reducing the risk of misfires or criminals getting their hands on guns. However, in order to eliminate guns from civilians, it would be an extremely tricky, inefficient, and inaccurate process that may end up with no good result. However, allowing weaponry can be a good idea. I think that guns should be allowed to be carried, exposed, out on college campuses and in public places, simply for protection. If you remove those weapons, it simply leaves people more vulnerable. However, if you give people that option, it weeds them out and shows who they are, and gives them greater protection, lowering the risk.
Criminals, also known as the people who don't obey the law, are still gonna be able to get guns illeagly. If anything, taking away guns from people who own them leaglly will only make it easier for criminals to go out and shoot a bunch of people, since they know they're all gonna be defenseless. Also, massacres involving guns occur in every country, not just the places where guns are legal. Actually, the US already has criminal background checks before someone purchases a gun. In other words: Strong criminal record or serious mental illness = no gun for you
True but remember there are always pedos or other people that are going to commit a crime for the first time. You bring good points, though.
Yo You sure about that, because in my mind, you may have just thought about the US and its high rates of crimes including guns and thought all countries with few gun laws are like that. Take the country of Switzerland for example, a nation where the gun laws are very similar to the US, yet the nation still holds some of the lowest rates of crimes that involve guns. So why don't you constantly hear about shootings in Switzerland where multiple people were killed and injured? Exactly. The point I'm trying to get across here is just because a country allows its citizens to walk around in public carrying guns, doesn't mean that the country will most likely have more violence involving guns.
You're missing my point. If you do the research, you'll still find that the nation has next to no crime that involves guns, which proves that if a country has a lack of gun laws, doesn't mean they have more crime that involve guns.
This is a tough question. If a society makes guns or any kind of weapon ILLEGAL. Then those whom follow the law would not have one. Now what do you call the group of people who don't care about following the law? ---Criminals! Ergo Only criminals would have the guns and the law abiding citizens would not. So yea.... As for those people who claim that taking away guns = less violence and that the "facts" prove it, I would recommend doing your own research on the matter and not just regurgitate what others tell you. <All this being said I do believe in the need for tighter restrictions on gun access . As long as a government does not take away the rights of Law Abiding Citizens to defend their own lives and the lives of their loved ones.>
yea u can. it would just be pointless. and btw I agree with you ea. I think guns should be illegal except for cops and military. and also except for nerf guns. those are fun
Hypothetically, if all firearms were removed from existence, cops and military wouldn't need them either, I think :x
well that would never be possible to remove them. someone in the world will always know how to make a gun. also, other countries would have guns so our military would need guns to fight them. I'm just saying our country should remove guns or at least make it punishable by jail or a fee. also, what if there is a burglar that is throwing knives at people and a cop is 50 yards away? the cop should use a gun to shoot him so no innocent people get hurt
It could also be argued that if we take away cars, there would be less deaths. The rate from death by car accident is way higher than being shot to death. The question is a matter of principle.
ye but guns are not really used for anything but shooting and killing. cars are used for transportation and aren't meant for killing.
Switzerland is also way smaller and way less people live there, also they are all rich af So that doesnt count Swiss is 80% mountain Ive been there this year on my way to italy
Well guns can still be used for self protection or hunting. The point I was trying to get across there was that just because a place has few gun laws, doesn't mean it's more likely to have shootings. But yeah, I guess I could've used a better example.
Just saying it's not like gun laws will really solve anything. If guns laws ever do exist, it doesn't mean the thoughts on killing the person would go away. He will find other gruesome ways to kill the person, whether it'd be bashing a rock into his head, stabbing him to death, or brutally decapitating him with an axe. Also, if gun laws did exist during the Revolutionary War, we wouldn't be America. The 2nd Amendment is a blessing. Did you know that the American Colonists used their own guns to fight the British? If they had gun laws, there wouldn't be a lot of people fighting. Britain would've easily kept our land.
If someone is trying to attack or even kill you, having a gun with you to shoot them would be neccessary is all I'm saying.
Think of it. Lots of hit and runs happening as of late. Just because something isn't used to kill doesn't mean it's not deadly.
well if someone is threatening you with a knife, you should be able to have one too. but I think guns are worse because they are very quick and innocent by-standers could easily get hurt because of someone's bad aim. with a knife or something, it is hard to miss when you are stabbing someone. well, as long as you aren't throwing them.
Or go on combat training like kickboxing or karate or mma, like i do.... I know what to do when some1 has a knife pointing at me I know the spots
Even if there were stricter gun laws, the person threatening you would still be able to get one illeagly.
exactly but then they should be punished even though some drugs are illegal, people still do it. every law has been broken at least once
Yeah, they should be punished, but most people who break the laws don't care that what they're doing is illegal. You're correct, people still do drugs that are illegal and every law has been broken before; and that's why making stricter gun laws won't do anything. Criminals will still get easy access to them.
true true. im not being racist or anything, but some immigrants get themselves jailed on purpose because they get free food and medicine and stuff in jail and they can't pay for it normally
heres how it happens. Its not guns dont people, people kill people. Its people with guns kill people who dont have guns. So lets take guns away and there will be FAR less fatalities. Trust me, we got rid of guns in the UK and we havent had a school shooting in over 20 years. America had more than five every year.
America isn't the UK. One of the original clauses in the Bill of Rights was the right to bear arms. This nation was founded and defended based on individuals grabbing whatever weapon they had, whether it be a shotgun or a knife, and gathering to fight. For the US to actually take out guns would be to alter the constitution, and there is no way that that will easily happen
You changed amendments before like slavery and prohibition. Plus the Bill of Rights was written in a different time where the threat of invasion by another great power was very real. These days your more likely to turn your gun on yourself than to actually defend yourself. Also back when it was written, people had muskets. Not AR15s and semi autos with 30+ round magazines with the power to penetrate most body armour. You are the only country in the FIRST WORLD who have this problem. No one else does. How many Sandy Hooks are you going to have to endure before you say ' okay, we need severe gun control across ALL states'. And then, say you tried to overthrow your tyrannical Government, the Government has drones and aircraft. You have a glock, and you're going up against a B52 bomber. Who will win? And this quote: 'This nation was founded and defended based on individuals grabbing whatever weapon they had, whether it be a shotgun or a knife, and gathering to fight.' Same with England, France, Russia, Algeria etc. Loads have people have done that in history, picking up weapons to revolt. Its not special. You need a history book more than a constitution dude.
So you are daring to compare the act of SLAVERY to owning your own gun. That's like saying people and guns are one and the same. Slavery was the ownership and abuse of HUMAN PEOPLE. The threat of invasion is always very real, and what's better, to have people turning on themselves and having people with guns to help fight, or to eliminate guns, people illegally acquire them, and others are defenseless, to stand around and be slaughtered? I'm not an idiot, I know what happened in history. However, they were ready for change. Just cause someone else did it before, doesn't mean it's always right for everyone else.
Nope, the emphasis was on that, to make you look again, to think that over. And i've gotta say, it worked
'So you are daring to compare the act of SLAVERY to owning your own gun. That's like saying people and guns are one and the same. Slavery was the ownership and abuse of HUMAN PEOPLE. The threat of invasion is always very real, and what's better, to have people turning on themselves and having people with guns to help fight, or to eliminate guns, people illegally acquire them, and others are defenseless, to stand around and be slaughtered?' 1. I wrote that you changed AMENDMENTS before like slavery and prohibition. I never tried to compare the act of owning the gun and owning slaves. You totally went on a tangent about nothing. 2. Which country in their right mind would invade you? Germany? Japan? Russia? You are one of, if not the most powerful military nation on this planet. People are more afraid of you invading them. You have invaded 70 countries since the revolution. You have been only invaded 4 times. 3.The thing is getting a gun on the black market is extremely hard these days. You have to know how to get in contact with the people and then with that they are not cheap. Around 45 grand for say a glock. In America to get a Mosin Nagant, you pay a hundred dollars at the cheapest. In the UK we turn to knifes. Now the thing with a knife wound is that its normally messy, it could cause a good bit of damage and most of the time the prick who is stabbing you is nervous. Most knife injuries are NOT fatal at all. Plus with trying to stab multiple people is that it builds up a sweat, you get tired quickly and you become less effective very quickly. Now the thing with guns is is that it is easier to not only cause someone harm, but also to take their life. With barely a pull on a trigger you can take a persons life, you dont even need to chase them! Plus if the bullet hits any bones on the way in, it will ricochet and cause massive damage to internal organs. The guy at sandy hook was able to efficiently kill all those kids and teachers because he had a gun. If he had a knife, then he may have got a few but not to the extent of the actual events. Now its true that banning guns wont drop crime rates greatly or average casualties from crimes, but it will definitely reduce fatalities significantly. Also it may be noted that in the case of almost all those school shootings, the gunman had the weapons LEGALLY. Now since the start of 2015 to today, there have been 62 school shootings. Over 12,220 people have been killed in gun incidents, with another 24722 people have have been wounded by guns. In your country there have been 353 mass shootings. I mean look at statistics. You have thirty times more gun murders than the UK. 60% of people murdered in the US in 2012 was with a firearm compared with countries like Australia which was only 18.2% and the UK 10%. No dude, i was too busy facepalming after reading Basils comment. Clearly he also needs a pair of glasses.
You clearly did. Yes, but the 2 changes you used in comparison are so diverted, and it just disgusts me that we can look at slavery and owning guns the same way. Overall, I understand your point, but seeing life in America from an American's perspective is quite different. I have lots of family, friends, teachers, and more who go and do things like hunting and stuff on a weekly basis. Eliminating this from America is going to be much harder than it sounds, especially in the 21st century
https://apple.news/Af0HJgzD-RzuJoJG0qGksRQ "Even with the top notch gun rules, the shootings still happen" BasilBac has requested me to put this here. So argument creds go to him lol.
