An open letter to SurgeTheUrge

Hi there,

If you didn't already know, I'm Josh. I've been playing SquadCraft now for around the past 2 years, and it's been a blast. Anyway, recently, things have gotten way out of hand & I can no longer sit in silence as I watch the server pass away. The situation is dire & things need to be changed urgently, or the server will collapse. So, I thought the best way to address this would be to write an open letter directed towards you, @surgetheurge .

Let's be honest, SquadCraft is a tainted shadow of what it once was & as are you. You're a creative person who obviously knows what he's doing, so why are you wasting that by being entirely lazy & incompetent? Players donate to your server to help improve it, so why is it just running steadily closer to the ground? This cannot carry on if you expect Squad to survive any longer than a few more months. You have the tools and knowledge to set things right. There is no doubt in that. SquadCraft would never have gotten so big without your input. I know you don't care about money, but do you care about the Squad experience anymore?

So, with all that addressed, what steps do we take to improve the server? One fundamental value of life is the fact that without change & innovation, things grow dated & eventually die. The server has become stale. What was the last big thing that was changed? Night Vision? Compasses in SkyWars? A few new spawns? 2 new SkyWars maps? Take a look at the competition. TheArchon used to get way less players than Squad did. But now, their player count & overall experience dwarfs ours. It's an embarrassment. You need to sit down & get dedicated to SquadCraft. If it keeps you alive & pays your bills, why do you seem to care so little about it? You owe it to us to get things on track, because I must remind you that without those who donate, the server would cease to exist. You're not pulling your own weight. What do you do to justify these people's donations? Hosting could be paid automatically & servers can be restarted by an admin in game. The owner is the one who is meant to do most of the work, so why is it that you do so little?

You need to understand that, without your input, SquadCraft WILL die. Sure, it's a pessimistic way to view things, but it's inevitable. In the past 6 months, player count has more than HALVED & the measures you have taken to change this have been ultimately futile. You can't remove the ban list & expect things to get better. That's as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. SquadCraft needs to be torn down and rebuilt from the ground up. Petty changes here and there don't make any difference, nor does it shroud the fact that you do almost nothing regarding changes to the server.

You've also suggested multiple times that you want to get rid of the mod team & have things run solely by plugins. I cannot muster how you could conjure such an absolutely ridiculous idea like that, but I've gotta tell you how ill thought out of a move that would be. The mods are another part of the reason that Squad still has players. This is a full time job, but you prioritise pointless tasks like taking out your trash or cleaning your room. And what's worse, you put off important jobs to do these things, and don't end up doing anything. You've said before that you lack determination. If that's true, give Yonda the password to console. He is dedicated to the server, which is a trait you seem to lack these days.

A great way of evaluating your own worth is asking yourself what the server would lose if you were gone. Because, from what I've seen, all you seem to do is restart the occasional server & pay the hosting bills. Yonda has been doing far more work than you have, but how is that just? I've been payed by Yonda out of his own wage for things that benefit the entirety of the server, not just him. How does that work out? The server is broken. Most servers lag. Everything is the exact damn same as it was when Noah left. The only things that have changed are the fact that you no longer have a boss who can cut your pay check if you slack, creative is no longer here & player counts are dwindling. The problem is, regardless if you lack the capability to fix things yourself, the help has been offered by capable individuals multiple times & you have stubbornly refused it. I understand you may have trust issues, and although that is not your fault, your lack of any useful action taken in improving the server is.

The positives are that SquadCraft still has a player count higher than most, so it is very easily salvageable from its certain demise. It sits in your hands. In the words of Eminem, if you had one shot, one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted. One moment. Would you capture it or just let it slip. The balls in your court Surge. Are you gonna take action, or jeopardise your entire life & let what you've spent the past 3 years building die?

I'd also like to ask the community to list every single specific issue in this thread so we can help get the ball rolling.

If i could add, I agree with you 100%
Skyblock, if it was not making money at the time, would have ended up like creative.. Skyblock is ultra laggy, getting "timed out" every 5-10 minutes.. More problems arise every day...
Surge, Open your eyes.. ALL of us love squad and hate to see it go down like a ship.
If you can't take care of the servers anymore, Give them to Yonda.
Leave, because if you cant fix a few things.. well then you shouldn't be here..

It's a fantastic way of looking at it, actually.

For example, let's say Yonda had to leave one day, the WHOLE operation would just come crashing to the ground

People like me that have been on the server for 3 years and 2 no that the server when to pieces when Noah left.
And went to the archon but you know I think that the server was going to change in a way where it would get better and even I got mod it just sucked me back in to the addicting faction server that was addicting to me for 3 years which is amazing because with all the other minecraft faction servers I never played on a diff. One it has only been squad for me and I don't want to let go. Just let Yonda have console if he did so much new things would be added . Please

Issues:

1. E-chests got reset for some players in Factions and I dont think nothing has been done about that.
2. In SkyWars Evolved and a few other servers, in /who it says "Playerz"

3. In SkyWars Evolved, one of the maps you're stuck and can't get out of glass.

1. Build Team: (Not v Important but not a single builder app has been accepted. And apart from two SW maps and a couple of KitPvP ones there hasn't been any new maps.
2. Fix the block lag: Block lag, the most frustrating thing in game, it was fixed last week for about 2 days. In the views of myself and many others, its back again. It needs to go.

 

I agree, also yonda should look at the GFX and builder apps more

This essay better be read by surge, if it isn't, all hope for squadcraft is lost. I will stay to the final day, if not second of the squadcraft server. The thread altogether changed every point of view and perspective of the server as a whole. May squadcraft prosper and rise, as major things need to be changed. The best plan to work with here is release paintball, and release prison, un-stale this server and advertise, go on voting websites, enter in, and squadcrafts population can come back! Surge, if you start youtube back up again, get some popular youtube buddies to record videos of you and your friends playing squadcraft, not only will squadcraft become more popular, but we can overcome TheArchon and share the same properties at the same time! Reinstall creative and there is another 100+ more players joining the server in the hopes of building wonderous creations being compare of some builders in minecraft today. One day, squadcraft will be able to overcome anything. Joshy, your thread has touched me. (#NoHomo)

*NEVER demote Yonda. This server would die twice if it weren't for Yonda. However, no admin can administrate solo.
If you have trust issues, can't Yonda hire Devs and more admins, with Yonda being head admin? We need more staff, staff behind the scenes and fixing everything within a day, not within a week.

This reminds me of Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares USA... we need a Ramsey who can fix up Minecraft servers ._.

 

I read on Reddit (where else?) that over 60% of the restaurants he 'fixed' closed down with-in 3 months of his presence there, only 10% are still open.

 

But when you look at them beforehand with their slime coated food storage and fungus encrusted cooking facilities... you sorta wonder why.. and how.. and whether you ever want to eat out again.

See I have donated for emerald on my brothers account and gold on mine and now I have been banned for "hacking" and I swear I don't hack and I just want someone to pls help me out because it happened to my own brother. His post is under @haik minasyan and mine is under factions/ban appeals/ got banned for no reason

 

Just because you donated doesn't mean you'll get special treatment.
